I know, I know. It’s like the movie I love to hate. But since I’ve been linked by somebody who isn’t comfortable with a little Muslim woman like me sharing her opinions about films, I had to bring it up.
Queen Gorgo is King Leonidas’ wife. She’s a tough woman. She takes crap from no one. After all, she’s a Spartan. She’s played by Lena Headey. Lena Headey is gorgeous in this film, like most Hollywood actresses. But…I’m looking at her and thinking, “That ain’t a Spartan woman.” I’m thinking, “Unless this woman knows some secret kung-fu moves, she gonna get decked in the head or back-hand slapped or something.”
Hollywood…if you’re gonna to do a film about strong, empowered women, get women who look like they can fight! It’s okay if you pick an actress who’s bigger than a size 2. It’s okay if you get a chick with muscles and a glare that can actually scare a man. Get Linda Hamilton. She took no prisoners in Terminator 2. Get Angela Bassett. She’s beautiful and muscular! (why hasn’t she done an action flick yet?)
Stop with the supermodels and get women with some meat! You know, a woman who looks like she could snap a man’s head off with her thighs!
Yeah, right. That will never happen. Folks, look forward to the next films from Hollywood featuring Halle Berry as Sojourner Truth and Keira Knightly as Boudica.

Keira Knightly would pout the enemy to death… she drives me nuts with her pouting! It’s not jealously btw. Masha’Allah, I am not lacking in the lip department, haha. But seriously… get a new look already. Or even better, just get outta ma face!

Keira Knightly is sooo annoying to listen! How about getting a new vocal chord? I know Hollywood can do wonders to human body…

Why are you people looking at that nonsense in the first place?

yeeaa why hasn’t Angela Bassett done an action flick. If I had those muscles i would be kicking some tail.
personally I love gore, I don’t critique films I just enjoy them. I’m one of those that love a good scare or great gushing blood

On Keira Knightley, I blame her for ruining the pirates of the caribbean films
I never saw other movies where she was part of.

Actually, if you look the record of the latest movies from Hollywood, it is hard not to notice the racist and war machines undertones in these films, and for me, it is quite long time I went to cinema, and I can tell if it a worth of my money to watch by looking at procedures or who finances. And when it comes to European films, they are the WORST! Some how, they most have nudity in every scenes
and saddest part is, the Chinese and Asians think it is modern to have these scenes. What is wrong with Crouching Tiger & Hidden Dragon, Ang Lee!!!
lately I became fan of Latin American films, and I hope it will not be infected by European film virus.

LOL @ iMuslim regarding Keira. I agree, some of these women are too soft to kick anyone’s butt. (Jessica Biel in Fantastic 4….. WAAACK.)

LOL!!! I still can’t get over how my entries on 300 get more attention than anything else!
Now in Keira Knightly’s defense, I *did* like her in Pride & Prejudice Of course, in that film, she played a role that’s suited to her look and acting abilities. Now when she played a modern version of Geneviere in the film Arthur, an arrow-toting, British warrior woman fighting in war paint and a bikini, I had to pause for a moment.
Gess: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon ROCKS!!! I love most films by Ang Lee or Zhang Zimou. The nudity is unfortunate, because it seems like the directors are throwing it in their films to try to keep the audiences’ attention. Of course, they can keep their attention by having really good actors and great dialogue. I’m sure they thought about that!
Kiki: Jessica Alba. Yes, another adorable, beautiful woman. But can she kick butt? Angela Bassett please show us how it’s done!
Nzingha: Hee-hee. You like chuncky, bloody body parts flying all over the place? Eeeeeeeew. LOL!

As-Salaamu ‘alaikum,
Actually, a lot of European film is state-funded because governments want to preserve a native popular culture rather than sell out to Hollywood; an awful lot of it bombs even in Europe. A few years ago there was a funded film issued called Sex Lives of the Potato Men and it made headlines because of the title, but we were told on no account go and see it because it was rubbish. More recently Woody Allen produced yet another state-funded flop and people were wondering why Europe is still funding him when he hasn’t produced anything decent in years.

Salaam alaikum,
That’s good news.
There are also some Hollywood films that are funded by…wait-for-it, oh yes, the Department of Defence. But for entirely different reasons.

Yes, almost all European films are funded by the state which is a stop block for the artists, and the latest successes from German films is one example (Der Untergang (really good film!), das Leben des anders and Good bye Lenin (another good film, and you can only understand the humour if you speak German
) You find the stop block when you see almost these fantastic Germans films serve the “Outnazification”. When der untergang came out, alot people were against that an actor should play ‘Hitler’.
How many people know the millions of German refugees in the east front died?

Hmm.. I felt I had to point out that Lena Hadley IS the new Sarah Connor on the tv show The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
