What bullshit is that? Women can get beaten up or even raped in islamic countries for not wearing that prudish attire and you still argue that they´re not oppressed? What kind of bizarre mindset is that?

Michael: Women get raped and beaten up regardless of the clothing they wear. You’d rather oppress women by having them undress for your pleasure. What kind of bizarre mindset is that?

Oh, dear.
Michael: Since before Islam, in some cultures, women AND men have covered their faces for religious and cultural reasons. Just look at the men of West Africa in Mali. The Tuareg Muslim tribe of Mali have men who cover their faces. You’re talking about extremists and militants but rest assured. I only know of ONE Muslim country that makes veiling obligatory by law, and that’s out of 52 Muslim majority nations. The other people are militants who are not recognized or respected by most Muslims or governments in Muslim lands. And like JD said, women are raped regardless. Just look at the stats on rape in America. http://www.pprsr.org/rapecrisis/statistics.cfm

I find it amusing that muslim-women cover-up (and pity these) to a degree that they look ugly and are invisible ‘not to get raped’ (or whatever) while Mohammed didn’t hesitate to marry the nine year old Aisha – without her consent – and also must have raped a number of slave-women as well without their consent. Muslim-women are second-class citizens in the Koran, Mohammed gave bad examples of how not treat women well, child-marriages still exist because of the Koran/Mohammed as does violence against muslim women. As said I pity them because they delude themselves; think muslim-women look ridiculous – and that out of fear for ‘muslim men who cannot control their sex’ – while women in the West have not have to (!) cover our hair (!) for centuries on end ‘in order not to be raped’.
@ Izy Mo
One “one Islamic country”? You speak too lightly about the oppression of millions and millions of women in that ‘one country’. Besides it is not true: Afghanistan, Iran, Saoedie-Arabia demand the muslim-women cover-up – and millions of muslim-women are forced to wear niqaab’s, headscarves, veils by mullah’s, imams, their own husbands, family ….amongst whom they live – e.g. in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Turkey …
But in the West muslim-women truly look ridiculous, are seen as offensive, act completely (and not sdeldom deliberately) against our culture – but in which they chose to live and where they have rights given to them by us – rights they don’t have in Islamic countries – and why I look down on muslim-women with their submission to men as these muslim-women see themselves as sex-objects – and they are indeed walking sex-objects with the ‘raping sex ‘ of muslim-men constantly on their minds – and muslim-men constantly reminded of muslim-women’s sex by their head-scarves, veils, burka’s, niqaabs.

Salaam ‘alaikum, IM. They’re coming out of the woodwork now, aren’t they. Sort of like watching a freak show, but without needing to pay any money.
Islamophobes on parade. Alhamdulillah that I’m not one of them any longer. May Allah (swt) grant them some understanding. Ameen.

Annebeth: “I find it amusing….” Why do our conversation with strangers online have to start off with such sarcasm? I mean, really, you’re out to prove a point to me but you won’t even address me with some manners. You’re upset because I have a point of view that you don’t like. Okay, no problem. You’re free to do that.
But you don’t know me and you’re coming at me with this anger and misinformation about Islam. Unless you have walked around inside of the minds of every single Muslim man, you’re making a statement you can’t prove. To address your other concerns, I wrote this article. http://www.ifeminists.net/e107_plugins/content/content.php?content.318
A woman’s right to choose sometimes means she makes choices that you don’t like. Just as some women choose abortion, others choose to veil. You don’t have to like it but that’s the way it is. It doesn’t make that choice any less valid. Turkey? Bangladesh? Pakistan? Wow, you don’t anything about Kemal Ataturk and how Turkey just recently lifted the headscarf ban. Pakistan? You’ve never been to Lahore, have you? Many, many, MANY women in Pakistan don’t cover. Ask any Pakistani woman.
JDsg: Walaikum salaam. YOU, an Islamaphobe? You were hatin’ on the Mozzies? I don’t believe it.
May Allah answer your dua a hundred times over.

Asalaamu alaikum.
ROFL… I especially like the part about how we “chose to live and where they have rights given to them by us”. Indeed, such ignorance. This is the kind of person who needs a history lesson on the “rights” they have “given” us, as if we are just a bunch of furiners with no indigenous roots here, and as if she and her ilk somehow own this country. Please.

No, not that I was ever an Islamophobe, just alhamdulillah that I’m no longer a non-Muslim.
